Oude Kerk é o edifício mais antigo de Amsterdão e os institutos de arte mais jovens. O edifício foi fundado por volta de 1213 e consagrado em 1306 pelo bispo de Utrecht com São Nicolau como seu santo padroeiro. Após a Reforma em 1578, tornou-se uma igreja calvinista, que permanece até hoje.
