Douro
The Douro (UK: , US: , Portuguese: [หdo(w)ษพu], Mirandese: [หdowษพส]; Spanish: Duero [หdweษพo]; Latin: Durius) is the largest river of the Iberian Peninsula by discharge. It rises near Duruelo de la Sierra in the Spanish province of Soria, meanders briefly south, then flows generally west through the northern part of the Meseta Central in Castile and Leรณn into northern Portugal. Its largest tributary (carrying more water than the Douro at their confluence) is the right-bank Esla. The Douro flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Porto, the second largest city of Portugal.
Peneda-Gerรชs National Park
Peneda-Gerรชs National Park (Portuguese: Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerรชs, Portuguese pronunciation: [หpaษพkษจ nษsjuหnal dษ pษจหneรฐษ สษจหษพeส]), also known simply as Gerรชs, is a national park in Norte Region, Portugal. Created in May 1971, it is the oldest protected area and the only national park in Portugal. It covers an area of 695.9 km2 (268.7 sq mi), occupying the Districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, and Vila Real and bordering the Spanish Baixa Limia โ Serra do Xurรฉs natural park to the north, which forms the UNESCO biosphere reserve of Gerรชs-Xurรฉs.
Peneda-Gerรชs was given its name by its two main granite massifs, the Serra da Peneda and the Serra do Gerรชs which, with the Serra Amarela and the Serra do Soajo, constitute the park's highest peaks.
