Vientiane was the administrative capital during French rule. The city had a population of 840,000 as of the 2023 census.
It is an amazing place for backpackers, cheap hotels and food. And the cheapest place to go on a hot air balloon (😻), also if you are there you should go tubing (it is better if you go in the morning cause if you start later you might have to rush to get to the end before it’s nigh-time)
